One may challenge anyone else for anything they might posses or any action they wish taken or stopped. Realize that to challenge, you must also put at risk something of value agreeable to the other party, and you stand to lose it.
Free persons may accept your challenge personally, or send a champion or fighting slave to do so. *laugh* So be careful who you challenge.
Slaves may only challenge or accept a challenge when they have the approval of their Owner and that approval is verified by a Judge. Typically, Owners do not involve themselves in squabbles among slaves, however, Owners have the right to protect their property by not allowing their slaves to make or accept a challenge.
A slave may challenge its own Owner only in mortal combat only, If the Owner refuses then the slave may force the Owner to accept by contacting a Judge, however, the slave then must fight naked and armed with only a common tool such as a pot, a stout stick or a dung bag *lmao*. If the owner still refuses, then freedom is awarded to the slave.
Typically one looses honor in declining a challenge. Rejecting a bonfire challenge is equivalent to being a coward. Challenges, however, might be declined for some of the honorable reasons below.
An established Free person might not wish to fight a newbie to the death because there is nothing to be gained in killing someone who is not well known or owns no slaves
An Owner might not wish to risk the loss of a "special" slave.
A Free Person might simply not care to do it.
Be warned that if you agree to mortal combat and loose by a fatal injury, your handle will be permanently banned from the tavern and all that you posses will become property of the victor. THIS INCLUDES ALL TAVERN SLAVES YOU OWN, EVEN IF THEY DID NOT AGREE TO STAND AS BOOTY. A TAVERN SLAVE THAT REFUSES TO HONOR THEIR NEW OWNERS RIGHTS WILL HAVE THEIR HANDLE BANNED ALONG WITH THE SLAIN OWNERS. Be careful therefore when accepting challenges to the death, you may be affecting more feelings than just your own.
A banned person may come back under a different handle but will not be allowed to comment on the old handle or dispute, that person must develop the new handles character from scratch. Obvious attempts to bring up old wounds will result in immediate banning. The fight is over, you died and lost, forget it and start over.
A Judge may be challenged. They are not above the rules of Gor and will abide by the outcome just like anyone else.
The ultimate judges of the validity of a challenge and who is strong or weak will of course be the Jewel of Gleaming Thassa patrons themselves and their opinions.
Many are the Free Persons that might enter the pit and emerge as a slave, their only other option being death by banning. Of course they will have the right to challenge their new Owner in the future. *Wondering if we will see more male slaves this way..*LOL* *
